History
Built by James Malcolm in the turbulent gold rush era, the building was firstly a hotel and general store aswell as a Cobb & Co coach stop.
Malcolm was a true entrepreneur of his time as he owned the store, was a partner in a gold mine and founded the Stuart Mill Flour Mill.
He was a teetotaler and looked down on his drinking clientele, and eventually the business reverted to being a general store.
After years of neglect, the almost derelict building was transformed into a luxurious B & B, retaining all of the period charm of the old building and incorporating all the modern features. |
